A Guide to TikTok
What is TikTok?
If you have never heard of TikTok, you might want to consider jumping on this trend soon. TikTok is a rising social media platform that allows users to create, edit and share video clips ranging from categories such as reaction videos, comedy and creative edits. While this might not seem like something that would benefit your brand, TikTok has burst on to the social media scene and has very quickly gained global popularity.
How to use TikTok?
- After creating an account, TikTok curates content for you to view under the ‘For You’ tab of your homepage. You are free to create a personalised feed by following your favourite TikTok creators, where their latest videos will show up under the ‘Following’ tab of your homepage.
- If you are looking for fresh content to view, head over to the ‘discover’ tab where TikTok compiles a list of videos that are under currently trending hashtags.
- Now for the fun part: To create a TikTok, select the plus button from the panel of options and tap the red button to begin recording. Once you are happy with your clip you should see a red tick in the corner where you can move on to editing.
- TikTok gives you a range of features to choose from including adjusting the speed of your video, adding filters and music as well as various other options such as stickers, visual effects, transitions and text.
- To upload your TikTok click on ‘Next’, where you can add captions and hashtags before posting.
How can TikTok benefit your brand?
TikTok could be something that benefits your brand as you can use it as a creative outlet to engage with your followers and even tap into a new audience, one way being through influencer marketing. TikTok has created many influencers, so building a partnership with these influencers is something to use to your advantage when it comes to promoting your products.
Many viral challenges, such as the #InMyDenim challenge created by Guess, have stemmed from TikTok and brands are now creating their own challenges to promote themselves on the platform. By launching a hashtag challenge, this is a unique way to have your audience engage with your brand and potentially reach new followers.
